Lil Wayne Explains Maine Concert Cancellation: Severe Migraine Triggered Seizure Risk

Hip-hop icon Lil Wayne has finally shed light on the abrupt cancellation of his June 30th tour kickoff in Maine, revealing that he was grounded by medical professionals due to a significant seizure risk. The New Orleans rap legend explained that a brutal migraine left him unable to safely board a flight to the venue.
In a candid, grainy Instagram video shared on July 5th, Wayne was seen strumming a guitar before offering a direct apology to his supporters. “Bangor, Maine, I gotta motherfuckin’ apologize to you personally again, for real, for real,” he told his followers, expressing deep regret for missing the highly anticipated performance.
Delving into the specifics of his medical condition, the rapper reminded fans of his ongoing battle with epilepsy. “Listen, I have epilepsy, and I have seizures, right? Thank God I haven’t had a seizure in years, but seizures have triggers,” he explained. He noted that intense migraines act as a primary catalyst for his episodes, and the severity of his headache that evening prompted his doctors to advise against air travel.
Despite the medical warnings, Wayne admitted he stubbornly attempted to make the trip, mumbling in the video that he still “tried to get on the plane to rock that bitch.” Fortunately, disaster was averted, and the rapper announced a makeup date scheduled for Tuesday, July 28th. He also assured fans that full refunds would be available for anyone unable to attend the rescheduled gig.
The last-minute cancellation originally left concertgoers in Bangor extremely frustrated, primarily because the announcement wasn't made until after the opening act, 2 Chainz, had already finished his set. Adding fuel to the fire, fans were quick to notice that Wayne made an appearance at Michael Rubin’s star-studded White Party in Southampton, New York, the very next day on July 1st.
Wayne's struggle with epilepsy has been well-documented over the past decade. Fans may recall a terrifying incident in September 2017 when he suffered multiple seizures inside a Chicago hotel room. This followed a scary series of events in 2016, which included two in-flight seizures and a subsequent hospitalization less than a month later.
The "A Milli" artist first went public with his epilepsy diagnosis back in 2013, following a multi-seizure scare that landed him in the hospital. During an interview with Power 106, he frankly discussed the severity of his condition. “The bad news is I’m an epileptic, I’m prone to seizures,” he stated, emphasizing that the public only hears about a fraction of the episodes he actually endures.
Fortunately, it seems the legendary emcee is feeling much better and is back on the grind. He immediately resumed his touring schedule with performances in Saratoga Springs, New York, on July 2nd, and Gilford, New Hampshire, on July 3rd—though fans noted he arrived two hours late to the Gilford set.
Moving forward, Lil Wayne's massive tour—which celebrates the 20th anniversary of his critically acclaimed Tha Carter album series—will pick back up in Des Moines on July 16th. From there, the rapper is slated to hit major cities across the country, including Chicago, St. Louis, Denver, Nashville, and San Antonio, promising fans the high-energy performances he is known for.
